Our December dishcloth exchange- which got put off until this month- was a great time. Everyone that came went home with a new dishcloth to decorate their kitchens. There was smooth ones and shaggy ones, plain ones and patterned ones. Thanks to everyone that came and made the afternooon such fun!

The next meeting will be February 11, 2010. This was a busy meeting! Several new folks and a visitor too.
Hello and welcome to: Sarah Brown, a handweaver from Centerville, Sue and Katie Smith, a wool producer, a spinner, felter and crocheter from Nunnely, Linda Reynolds from the Quilters Guild in Centerville, Marie Smith, a quilter from Linden, Soula Horner, a quilter and crocheter from Linden. Thank you all for coming. We hope you can come back!
We discussed the blog. I want to encourage the use of the blog to help with some of the "business" of the Buffalo River Fiber Guild. We can spend more time actually knitting, crocheting, weavng, spinning and felting, if we don't have to go over routine business everytime.
We discussed the Fall Guild Show possibility. Bobby Burcham Studio -newly opened in Linden- has asked if we as a group would like to put together a show.
.There would be someone there at all times.
. We would do it in conjuction with a county wide event.
. We would take turns staying there during the open times.
. It would be open for a short duration. 3-4 days
. We would have a theme....
. We would demonstrate for the public-work on a project- while there.
. We could have pieces for sale if we desired, but the prices would be
descreetly marked.

The Guild show discussion led to an examination of the guild mission. Who we are, and who we want to be. If I have this right, we want to be about practicing our fibercrafts, sharing with each other our projects both successes and failures, and etc. Educating others about our crafts, their history and practice. Promoting the artists who have taken the step futher to create a cottage industry from their passions.

We have a library corner in the Lobelville Library. Being installed this month there will be a bookshelf with a guild sign-out sheet where you can get info on fiber crafts. It will be open to the guild only.

Linda Reynolds shared with the guild that the quilt committee of Hickman County is looking for people with vision and organizational skills to go with their passion for the fiber arts to take over for the current committee after the 2010 show. Interested people can email her at
mailto:quiltsofhome@gmail.com .

God Speed to guild member Dorothy Inman as she will be travelling to Vermont.

Beverly Baylis sent us a thank you for welcoming her to our guild. She is a knitter from Florida who is moving here eventually. She sent us Big Book of Knitting Stitch Patterns for our guild library. Many thanks to her for the kind gift. Anyone interested in seeing it can check it out from the guild library.

Question for August: Do you STEEK?

Update from July Meeting

The July Meeting was the 9th of July. We had a great time with old friends and welcomed new ones. Cindy Collins from Lyles joined us. Cindy is a weaver and spinner. She brought a Jacob fleece and her drum carder. Thanks for joining us Cindy! Emily Freeman and daughter Elizabeth also joined us to see what we were about. Everyone has been so busy! Wanda Warren modeled her varigated blue Shrug- beautiful! She also showed off her pair of "maryjanes" that she knit with varigated green yarn. Andi was there with several of her crocheted hotpads and she got together with Wanda to learn the knit stitch on a dishrag. That's what we're all about! learning from each other and encouraging others in keeping these crafts alive! Mary Dowdy was there working on one of her crocheted blankets, we all hope to see the finnished product soon! Dorothy Inman came with several things to put in our window display! The cro-kniting is so interesting and her Cancer Patient "Boggins, and Scarves" are a work of love!

Our Buffalo River Fiber Guild has a window display! Thanks to all who contributed and who helped put it together. If you haven't seen it make a trip to Linden Mainstreet and take a look! Dorothy Inman was there making "bogs" for the ladies that have lost their hair at the TN Oncology Center. We had two new people, Beverly from Florida, and Andi from here in Perry county. Our gathering was small but most interesting. Joel Tucker stopped in to say he has a large floor loom for sale. Jodi Brey stopped in to see if we would be interested in manning a booth at the Saturday Market that they are setting up. As a guild... This would be an opportunity to show others our crafts. We could man it on a rotating basis. She also wondered if we sould be willing to set up a window display in one of the downtown windows.
